The group and access brief
Two adults and a nine-year-old want to make something together. The child does not want jump scares, so York Dungeon is removed. Cocoa Works is the preferred anchor. Before paying, the family needs an answer about a specific ingredient and cross-contact risk. JORVIK remains an optional separate booking if energy, cost and timing work. “Interested” does not become “booked” until those questions are answered.
Question template: “We are considering [exact experience] on [date]. A member of our party needs [specific arrangement]. Can you confirm [practical question], how we should book, and whether this affects the ticket category or available time slots?”
The rain-ready itinerary
Anchor: Cocoa Works workshop. Before: arrive within the venue's stated check-in window. After: allow setting or agreed collection time, then a seated meal. Optional: JORVIK only if a suitable slot is available after the full break and transfer. Fallback: finish after the workshop and meal. Departure rule: leave enough time for the family's independently checked onward journey. No second ticket is purchased merely to fill a gap.

Budget and booking comparison
A group chooses a £150 whole-day ceiling. They reserve £30 for food, £20 for transport, £15 as a disruption buffer and £5 for optional spending. That leaves £80 for all admissions: £150 − £30 − £20 − £15 − £5 = £80. They obtain actual quotes next. If their preferred tickets exceed £80, they remove the optional visit or revise the plan before purchasing.
Calculate manually. If G is greater than F, the plan is over its admission allowance. Keep all quotes in the same currency and include mandatory fees.

Pass check: add the individual cost of only the included visits you will actually make. Compare it with the pass total plus excluded activities. A pass listing at Cocoa Works does not establish that the bar-making workshop is included.
